New York bans home disposal of electronics!

Recycling electronics, such as cell phones, televisions, and computers (along with rechargeable batteries found in many of these items), keeps dangerous materials out of the waste stream and out of the environment.A combination of local and state laws dictate the management of these items. City law prohibits the disposal of rechargeable batteries, such as those found in cell phones, while State law requires that (1) all cell phone service providers accept cell phones for reuse or recycling, (2) electronics manufacturers to begin programs to take back electronics for recycling in April 2011, and (3) a residential disposal ban for electronics (like computers, TVs) in 2015.To manage your electronics legally and responsibly, take advantage of take-back, reuse, and recycling programs.
